What to see in Scicli, a baroque city

Ready to explore the magical backdrop of Scicli? Acquaduci offers perfectly located Scicli holiday rentals Sicily, providing the ideal tranquil base for exploring this wonderful UNESCO town and the entire Val di Noto.

Scicli sits on a plain where three valleys, known as “quarries,” meet: the Modica quarry, the Santa Maria La Nova quarry, and the San Bartolomeo quarry. These valleys extend at the foot of ancient rock outcrops, giving the area a very picturesque appearance.

The area is rich in caves, a feature that facilitated the settlement of rock-cut civilizations. Scicli may have been inhabited more than 3,000 years ago.

Like other towns in the area, Scicli was destroyed by the tragic earthquake of 1693 and then rebuilt in the Baroque style of the time.

"View

The historic center of Scicli is a jewel of Baroque architecture and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The buildings are warm, golden in color, with sinuous lines and elegant decorations.

Scicli became known to the general public as the filming location for the popular television series “Inspector Montalbano,” based on the novels by Andrea Camilleri.

The inspector’s adventures are set in the Sicilian town of Vigata. “Vigata” doesn’t actually exist; it’s a fictitious name, but Scicli is home to some iconic locations:
