Ciao da Vincenzo e Agnese!
we are thrilled to have you back here on the Acquaduci blog. If you are reading this, you probably love our beautiful Sicily or perhaps you are one of those “faithful” fans who feels a tug at the heartstrings every time the images of Vigata appear on screen.
We live in these places every day, and we promise you, the emotion never fades. Walking through the golden stone alleys or smelling the sea breeze in Punta Secca is like stepping into the TV screen and becoming part of the story. That’s why we’ve decided to write this heartfelt guide—a true cinematic tour of South-Eastern Sicily—to help you discover the most authentic corners of our land linked to Italy’s most beloved Inspector.
In the Footsteps of Inspector Montalbano: A Guide to the Iconic Filming Locations Near Pozzallo and Scicli
The beauty of the Hyblaean area is that here, reality surpasses fiction. When Andrea Camilleri imagined his Vigata, he was inspired by his hometown of Porto Empedocle, but it was the genius of director Alberto Sironi who found the perfect face for the series in this corner of Sicily—between Scicli, Ragusa, and the coast near Pozzallo.
If you are our guest or are planning your return to Acquaduci, here is our guide to Montalbano locations in Scicli and surroundings.
Scicli: Where Baroque Becomes a Film Set

Let’s start with a true gem, just a few minutes’ drive from Pozzallo. Scicli is a breathtaking city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. But for fans of the series, there is a recurring question: where is the Montalbano police station located?
The answer lies in the pulsing heart of the historic center, in Via Mormino Penna. The iconic building that houses the office of Salvo and his colleagues (Mimì Augello, Fazio, and the unforgettable Catarella) is actually the Town Hall of Scicli. Entering the atrium, you can breathe in the atmosphere of the investigations; the ground floor was used for the office scenes, while the Commissioner’s room in Montelusa is located nearby, in the stunning Palazzo Iacono.
Walking through Scicli means immersing yourself in an open-air set. We recommend doing it at sunset, when the limestone turns pink and gold, making everything magical.
La Mannara: The Decadent Charm of Sampieri
Many of our guests often ask us: what to see in the Montalbano locations near Pozzallo? The most suggestive answer is undoubtedly the Fornace Penna, located in Sampieri, in the Punta Pisciotto area.
In the fiction, this early 20th-century industrial ruin is known as “La Mannara,” a dark and fascinating place where crimes often take place. In reality, it is an extraordinary example of industrial archaeology overlooking the cliffs. We love to recommend a walk on the beach of Sampieri to the Fornace: the contrast between the deep blue of the sea and the high red brick walls is unforgettable.
Punta Secca: Marinella’s House

No cinematic tour of South-Eastern Sicily is complete without a stop in Marinella, which in reality is the seaside village of Punta Secca.
Here you will find the famous Montalbano house with its beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. Seeing it in person is quite an experience: you can almost see Salvo swimming at dawn or sipping coffee while looking at the horizon. Even though the interior is now a B&B, the square in front and the lighthouse are open to everyone, where you can take an iconic photo or, better yet, sit and eat an arancino while enjoying the breeze.
Ragusa Ibla and the Donnafugata Castle
Moving slightly inland, we arrive at Ragusa Ibla. This district is the main face of Vigata. The Piazza del Duomo di San Giorgio is where we often see Montalbano and Mimì discussing cases at a cafe table.
Nearby is the Donnafugata Castle. If you remember the sumptuous villa of the mafia boss Balduccio Sinagra, well, this is it! Beyond the fiction, the castle is worth a visit for its labyrinthine gardens and richly decorated rooms.
